Run a Redesign-To-Cost project for a regional train to ensure the program’s profitability

A new, highly innovative, versatile regional train that, while at the cutting edge of technology with superior performance, has not yet achieved its objectives in two major areas: costs and weight. There is therefore a need to estimate very quickly the axes and the improvement issues before the approval of the train which would close too many doors to change.

Implementation of a system with 8 IAC consultants to work with the different teams located in different customer sites, the 16 subsystems that make up the train:

  • Determine the technical and economic scope and the weight frame of reference
  • Identify cost and weight drivers (weight reduction being a cost driver)
  • Identify areas for improvement (review/response to specifications and standards, design, supplier, manufacturing, weight-cost trade-off)
  • Estimation of the cost/weight and effort/time/risk improvement issues associated with the implementation vis-à-vis the project planning and retrofitting possibilities if necessary
  • Consolidation and formulation of a recommendation to the Project Management

Creation of a portfolio of improvements, shared by customer teams, allowing to drastically reduce the gap to cover in terms of costs and weight.
