Interview : How to improve the environmental footprint and total cost of a future inverter offering?

How to improve the environmental footprint and total cost of a future inverter offering?

The market for electrical protection of data centers and control of their consumption is growing rapidly. In order to support this growth, Schneider Electric is developing new, denser and more energy-efficient offers. The brand is currently working on the replacement of its high power offer for the IEC market, in the 1500kVA range.

Sustainability is the core strategy at Schneider Electric. It influences the evolution of its development techniques. It is not always easy for such global projects to control the full cost, in a changing geopolitical context. IAC’s expertise allows to support development teams in this sense, and also to accelerate the acquisition of knowledge and techniques to assess more quickly and efficiently the CO2 footprint of products.

IAC Partners worked on the decomposition of the global cost of the product by looking at M, L, O but also the costs of Transport, Installation, start-up but also the costs of Maintenance over the life of the product, the costs of Services. This global cost was evaluated in € spent by Schneider but also in g of CO2 emitted by Schneider from the manufacturing to the final use of the UPS. Carried out by a team of 2 people over 6 months. The optimization of these costs was done through recommendations elaborated with crossfunctional worldwide WorkShops (US, China, India, Denmark and France teams).
We can cite 3 examples of deliverables:

  • the definition of a product technology roadmap to reduce maintenance costs (propose remote with BlackBox)
  • the proposal of different MFO scenarios that form trade-offs between reducing supply costs and increasing the robustness of the BCP.
  • a tool to evaluate the CO2 footprint of the product

This collaboration with Schneider Electric was a success and the satisfaction of both parties is undeniable. We hope to collaborate again in the future.
