Control the modular design of a range of inverters

The client

One of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) for the petroleum, gas, power generation and transportation industries.

Our client wishes to industrialize the new range of its Engineering to order products via modular design with the aim of reducing manufacturing costs and production time of its products.

IAC is mandated during 1 year within the project team and during the product definition phase, to structure and animate the modular design approach.

After an initial framing phase to map the product functions as well as identify the key modules and their diversity, workshops are organized by module for:

  • Challenging internal constraints and technical choices
  • Search for the number of modules required per function
  • Valuing opportunities to reduce costs and manufacturing time
  • Confirm cost reduction issues with strategic partners

The Price Hub tool makes it possible to provide, in parallel with workshops, the economic elements necessary for the validation of diversity reduction ideas via calls for tenders conducted by IAC.

Throughout the modular design project, the module definition schedule is monitored using OBEYA visual management tools, set up in a dedicated project room.

-Drastic reduction (up to 20 times) in the number of modules needed to cover customer requests.
